Vasco: The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) has told the shopkeepers operating at the old vegetable market to pay their dues before the Vasco saptah ends. The festival is scheduled from July 30 to Aug 5.The shopkeepers, some of whom have been operating at the market for seven decades, were called for a meeting to the council hall on Thursday morning by MMC chairperson Girish Borkar.Most of the shopkeepers have not paid their dues consisting of the interest generated by the principal amount on their sopos.They were told that clearing of dues was key to starting the construction work on the new vegetable market project, which would cost about Rs 1.8 crore.Meanwhile, the MMC has decided to disburse Rs 1.2 lakh to Shree Damodar Bhajani Saptah Committee to celebrate the 126th edition of the festival this year.
