Traditional wrestling tournament today

In an effort to revive and celebrate the rich legacy of traditional sports, Prakruti Foundation is hosting a special wrestling tournament in Mysuru on Sunday.

The event will be held at the D. Devaraj Urs Multi-purpose Sports Ground, Doddakere Maidan. Mysuru MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar will be the chief guest and will present the ‘Wadiyar Cup’ to the winning pair.

The tournament will feature over 40 pairs of wrestlers, including both men and women, from Karnataka and other States. The competition aims at promoting traditional wrestling and encourage public participation in indigenous sports, a press release said.

The entry is free, and organisers have urged the public to attend in large numbers and said the public support is key for the revival of the wrestling tradition in Mysuru.
