Rourkela: A young woman of Sundargarh district, who had been trafficked and sold to a 24-year-old youth from Madhya Pradesh three months ago, was rescued by Birmitrapur police on Sunday.On Friday night, a 45-year-old woman lodged an FIR alleging that a woman named Asha Jaypuria took her 20-year-old daughter from their house on Jan 3 morning on the pretext of providing her a job in Rourkela. Her daughter was then sent to Katni in Madhya Pradesh with a man named Ranjit, a Rourkela resident.The complainant said that Ranjit took her daughter to Jabalpur and sold her to a youth for Rs 1.50 lakh. She alleged that the accused has been physically exploiting her daughter against her will.
She mentioned that her daughter managed to contact her over phone and informed her about the ordeal. Based on the FIR, Birmitrapur police registered a trafficking case and started investigating.On Sunday, the 20-year-old was rescued from the house of one Narayan Yadav in Bari Kanoda village. Birmitrapur police station IIC R P Nag said, “Our police team has rescued the young woman today from a house in a village in Madhya Pradesh, who had been trafficked and sold to a youth in Madhya Pradesh. The youth and his family have been told to appear at the police station on Monday.”
