Ganga Kaveri Express was stopped over emission of smoke from the under chassis of a coach near Manubolu (MBL) railway station in SPSR Nellore district under Vijayawada division of South Central Railway (SCR) zone for more than an hour on Friday morning.

According to the SCR sources, passengers of train no. 12670 from Chhapra Junction (CPR) to Chennai (MAS) on observing the emission of smoke pulled the alarm chain and alerted the authorities.

Train Manager (erstwhile Guard) said that the train was stopped due to brake-binding between Manubolu – Gudur section at 9.21 a.m. Railway technical staff attended to the issue on the wheel and the train departed at 10.41 a.m.

Brake binding in trains occurs when the brake blocks on a wheel do not fully release after braking, causing continuous friction between the brake and wheel. This can lead to smoke, heat, and even fire if not addressed promptly, the source said. It is a common issue, but drivers and guards are usually able to resolve it quickly. This did not disrupt other train services between Vijayawada and Chennai, the sources added.
