The Transport Commissioner of Karnataka has suspended three officials, including the Assistant Regional Transport Officer (Administration) of the Regional Transport Office at Sakleshpur in Hassan district, for celebrating the birthday of a private person in the office premises.

Transport Commissioner A.M. Yogeesh issued orders suspending S.N. Madhura, ARTO, N.R. Asha, motor vehicle inspector, and M.K. Girish, superintendent, on July 21.

The Commissioner took disciplinary action against the trio following complaints of holding birthday celebration of the principal of a driving school in the office premises in Sakleshpur on July 11. The video clip of the celebration, in which the officials were seen felicitating the private individual, who is also said to be an unauthorised agent operating in the RTO, went viral.

Pro-people organizations took exception to the event. A representative of an organization, as a mark of protest, submitted a memorandum to the RTO recently requesting that he be allowed to celebrate his birthday in the office premises.

Following this development, the Joint Commissioner of Myusu division issued a show-cause notice to the three officers. Upon finding their responses unsatisfactory, the disciplinary authority of the department suspended them, pending further inquiry.
