Travis Kelce, the star tight end of the Kansas City Chiefs, is facing the biggest choice of his career. The 34-year-old is in the last year of his $34.25 million two-year contract with Kansas City.
A source close to him has said that he expects this season could be his last. Even though Kelce thought about retiring after the Chiefs’ Super Bowl loss in February 2025 in New Orleans, he came back for the new season. Now, with a wedding to Taylor Swift ahead and a future in TV waiting, many believe he may step away once the year ends.
Travis Kelce weighs retirement after Super Bowl loss and new engagement
The Chiefs lost 27-21 to the Los Angeles Chargers on September 5, 2025, in São Paulo, Brazil, the first game of the season. After that defeat, talk about Travis Kelce’s retirement grew stronger. A source told the Daily Mail that Travis Kelce “anticipates he will hang it up after this season.” The source added, “A handful of things have to happen, or not happen, that will make Travis decide if he keeps playing. This should be the end.”
Travis Kelce has admitted before that the pain of losing the Super Bowl in February made him wonder if it was time to stop. Head coach Andy Reid told him to take his time and not rush a decision. That advice helped him return for 2025, but the talk about his future has not stopped. If Kansas City reaches the Super Bowl again, many believe Travis Kelce may call that his “swan song.”
If not, the Chiefs are still ready to offer him another deal, showing how much they value his role on the team.
