According to the National Center for Seismology, the source of the tremors was a 4.4-magnitude earthquake centered near the Koraput region of Odisha, specifically in the vicinity of Jeypore.

Residents across the Alluri Sitarama Raju district, particularly in the Araku Valley and Paderu regions, are said to have experienced significant tremors late on Saturday (April 4, 2026) night.

The seismic activity, which occurred at approximately 11:31 p.m., lasted for about eight seconds, prompting many families to flee their homes in fear.
