Phase I of riverfront will cover a 1.5km stretch between railway tracks on Odathurai Road and old Cauvery bridge on Trichy-Chennai NH (south bank)
Cleared/255 WordsTrichy: Trichy corporation has floated a retender for the Cauvery riverfront project and the redevelopment of Kottapattu tank near Trichy International Airport.
The total work is valued at Rs86.4 crore including operations and maintenance.
Officials said that a new contractor will be identified by July.The previous tender was floated in Jan, and corporation was expected to commence the project before the assembly election. However, civil work did not begin. Recently, the local body cancelled the old tender citing administrative reasons.Officials said that a new tender was floated in June. “There is no change in the plan or funds.
All parameters will be the same. The new tender was floated so that more bidders could participate,” a senior corporation official said.Required approvals and study for the project have been obtained already. Cauvery riverfront and Kottapattu tank redevelopment will utilize German funding (KfW) and the local body’s general fund. “A portion of the work could have been completed by now, If it had commenced before March,” an official remarked.
According to officials, phase I of riverfront will cover a 1.5km stretch between railway tracks on Odathurai Road and old Cauvery bridge on Trichy-Chennai NH (south bank). The second phase shall beautify a 0.7km stretch between Amma Mandapam ghat and Geethapuram ghat (north bank) in Srirangam.
