Trichy police arrest man with 4kg ganja procured from Odisha

Trichy: Prohibition enforcement wing (PEW) of Trichy police has arrested a 33-year-old man in the city for possessing 4.1kg of ganja sourced from Odisha.Police said T Prasanth, a resident of Mill Colony in Ramji Nagar, is a frequent offender.

He fled from police while peddling 1.8kg of ganja on June 16.Based on a tip on Thursday, SSI Georgy Jacob and his team rushed to an isolated spot near the bunds of Pirattiyur tank, opposite Trichy West RTO office, and caught Prasanth with two bundles of ganja weighing 4.1kg valued at ₹2 lakh.“He had been smuggling ganja from Odisha through rail and road networks. Sometimes, peddlers use heavy vehicles that transport goods between states to smuggle ganja,” a police source said. Police said peddlers who bought from Prasanth sold ganja, including to college students, in the city and neighbouring districts. Prasanth was remanded in judicial custody.
