Tricked with Insta message, parents beat 20yo girl’s lover to death in UP

Agra: A 25-year-old man from Etah was allegedly beaten to death by his lover’s family after they tricked him with an Instagram message from the 20-year-old woman’s account in the middle of night.

Thinking that it was from his lover, he walked straight into the trap.After the brutal thrashing, he was left to die in a room, and the woman’s father and brother later dumped him on a secluded stretch of Shikohabad road in Mainpuri. According to police, the postmortem report stated “death due to ante-mortem injuries and excessive bleeding”.SHO Dharmendra Singh Pawar said, “Pawan Singh, who was married, and the accused were neighbours in Etah. Singh’s family identified him with the help of a photo (of the corpse) provided by cops. Following an investigation after the FIR, the lover’s father Pramod Kumar, Ravindra (brothers) and a woman (name withheld by police) were arrested on Friday night.”Singh, who used to work as a driver, had been in a relationship with Kumar’s daughter for almost three years. Her family was firmly opposed to it and despite a prior settlement at a village panchayat, the two remained in touch. The woman, who is a BA student, also put pressure on Singh to leave his wife and marry her instead.ASP (Etah) Shwetabh Pandey said, “On the night of April 13, the family sent him a message from the daughter’s social media account with ‘her desire to meet’... The incident took place in Etah and his body was found the next day in neighbouring Mainpuri.”Based on a complaint by Singh’s wife, an FIR was registered under BNS sections 103 (1) (murder), 238 (destroying evidence) and 191 (rioting) against Pramod Kumar, his son Mohit, Ravindra, and several others at Kotwali Dehat on April 22.
