Lucknow: Three labourers were killed after a truck carrying iron reinforcement bars (rebar) overturned on the Gonda-Belsar road in Gonda district on Thursday morning.Four other labourers travelling on the vehicle survived after jumping off moments before it toppled, police said.The accident occurred around 9:30 a.m. near Madhavpur village under Dehat Kotwali police station limits. The truck was transporting iron rods for a bridge construction project over the Tedhi river at Veer Singh Pur when the driver allegedly lost control.Preliminary information indicates the vehicle veered onto the shoulder on a rain-soaked stretch of road, causing the heavily loaded truck to lose balance and overturn into a roadside field.
Three labourers were trapped beneath the vehicle, while four escaped with injuries.Local residents alerted police and emergency services. Teams from Dehat Kotwali police station and ambulances reached the spot, rescued the trapped men and took them to Gonda Medical College. Doctors declared three labourers dead on arrival.The deceased were identified as Ravindra Paswan (31), Rajendra Paswan (42) and Ram Gulam Paswan (30), residents of Chandpur village under Tarabganj police station. Ravindra and Rajendra were brothers. The injured were admitted for treatment.Police said an investigation is underway, with slippery conditions due to rain suspected as a factor. Chief minister Yogi Adityanath expressed condolences and directed officials to assist the families and ensure proper medical care.
