US President Donald Trump has withdrawn the extended Secret Service protection granted to former Vice President Kamala Harris, a White House official confirmed the decision on Friday.
Harris was eligible for six months of security cover after leaving office in January, as per US law, but President Joe Biden had prolonged it for an additional year through an executive order before leaving the office following defeat by the Republican Party.
Trump has now cancelled that extension through a memo, which stated: “You are hereby authorised to discontinue any security-related procedures previously authorised by Executive Memorandum, beyond those required by law, for the following individual, effective September 1, 2025: Former vice president Kamala D Harris."
