The West Asia conflict shows little sign of ending, with the United States and Iran yet to reach a formal truce agreement amid fresh escalation in the region. Tensions intensified over the past 48 hours after Iran accused the US of violating a fragile ceasefire in the southern coastal province of Hormozgan.

The accusation came after US Central Command (CENTCOM) said American forces had carried out strikes on missile sites and boats in southern Iran on Monday. According to the US military, the vessels were attempting to lay naval mines in the Gulf.

At the same time, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed it had fired at US aircraft allegedly attempting to enter Iranian airspace. “The US terrorist army, continuing its illegal and unjustified actions since the ceasefire… has, in the past 48 hours, committed a gross violation of the ceasefire in the Hormozgan region," Iran’s foreign ministry said in a statement.

The ministry further warned that Tehran “will not leave any evil unanswered and will not hesitate to defend the Iranian nation," though it did not provide additional details.

The latest exchange highlights the fragile nature of ongoing diplomatic efforts, with ceasefire negotiations still failing to produce a final agreement between Washington and Tehran.
