Trump's granddaughter Kai Trump trolled for 'tone deaf' joke on bankruptcy in grocery shopping video

Trump's eldest granddaughter Kai Trump has transformed into an overnight social media influencer apart from her career in professional golfing. The 18-year-old recently released a video on her YouTube channel on March 8 joking about "going bankrupt" while loading her cart at the upscale and luxurious Los Angeles supermarket, Erewhon.

Titled 'I Brought My Secret Service to Erewhon' the video gave a glimpse to her followers into what it's like shopping at the pricey chain as she spent time in California. It also marked the influencer's first time visiting the supermarket popular among numerous celebrities. As she sampled the store's popular $22 Hailey Bieber-inspired strawberry smoothie and purchased a $128 Erewhon sweatshirt she joked, "I'm like about to go bankrupt with this stuff."Moments later, she doubled down, on the joke adding, "I'm gonna have to file for bankruptcy." Some of the items in her cart included a bottle of hyperoxygenated water for $12.95, a jar of dates for $16, a plate of sushi for $19.99, a $10 bottle of lavender lemonade and a meal, most of which she ended up disliking. During the outing, Trump spent a total of $233 on her cart, an amount that seemed too small for the granddaughter of the US President to file bankruptcy over.

Viewers quickly called out the young golfer on her "tone deaf" video, accusing her of 'rage-baiting' fans with her comments. "Title might be the most tone deaf thing I've ever read. Like legit lmao," one person commented on YouTube, while another wrote "I could have fed my family of 3 for probably 5 days"Over on X, a different person said, "I have to believe she’s rage baiting," before labelling the segment "disgusting" and "scene-causing." Another claimed "It genuinely sometimes feels like they are trying to usher in a French Revolution" Kai who enjoys 1.45M subscribers on her YouTube channel along with 2.7M followers on Instagram, previously faced criticism for posting a selfie video filmed near military aircraft on TikTok.In the since-deleted clip, she walks toward the camera on an airport runway while a large aircraft and several military helicopters are visible in the background.

The rising criticism against the budding golfer underscores the widespread hate her grandfather has been receiving due to his decision to enter into a war with Iran. President Trump announced "major combat operations" against Iran on February 28, 2026. Iranian state television later confirmed that the country's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei was among those killed in airstrikes on Tehran on the first day of the attacks.
