US President Donald Trump claimed that Iran shot down an American Army Apache helicopter during a patrol mission over the Strait of Hormuz, escalating tensions in one of the world’s most strategically important waterways. In a statement posted on his Truth Social account, Trump said he had been informed by military officials that Iranian forces were responsible for bringing down the aircraft. He added that the helicopter’s two pilots survived the incident and were rescued without injuries.

“The United States must, of necessity, respond to this attack," Trump wrote, signaling the possibility of military action against Iranian targets.

The Strait of Hormuz, a narrow passage connecting the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman, is a critical route for global energy shipments. The White House did not immediately provide details on the nature or timing of any retaliatory measures.
