US President Donald Trump said that a “great settlement" to end the war with Iran could be completed within days, expressing confidence that negotiations were nearing their conclusion and suggesting a signing ceremony could take place soon.
Speaking during an event in the Oval Office, Trump said the agreement was in its final stages and indicated that Vice President JD Vance could attend a formal signing ceremony, potentially in Europe.
“The documents are pretty final shape, so we’ll see," Trump said, asserting, “We’ll see."
“That should be done pretty quickly," he added. The comments mark Trump’s latest attempt to project optimism about negotiations aimed at ending months of conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran.
What Did Trump Say About Iran Deal?
Trump described the emerging agreement as a “great settlement" and suggested that most of the remaining work had already been completed. The US President said that the documents underpinning the proposed accord are close to being finalized, raising the prospect of an official signing ceremony in the near future. He did not provide details about the contents of the agreement or explain which outstanding issues remain unresolved.
The remarks came hours after Trump announced on Truth Social that he had cancelled planned military strikes against Iran, claiming that discussions had reached the highest levels of the Iranian leadership and that final points had been approved by parties involved in the talks.
Where Could Iran Agreement Be Signed?
Trump said a signing ceremony could be held in Europe and suggested Vice President JD Vance would represent the administration at the event. However, the White House has not announced a venue or date and no other parties involved in the negotiations have publicly confirmed plans for a ceremony.
Who Has Trump Been Speaking To?
Trump said he had spoken with several regional leaders as efforts to secure an agreement continued. Among those he mentioned was Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, one of Washington’s closest partners in the conflict. The US President also said he had spoken with leaders from Gulf nations, although he did not identify them individually.
What Questions Remain?
Despite Trump’s confidence, significant uncertainty remains over the state of the negotiations. Iran has yet to publicly confirm the US President’s claims that an agreement is close and details of the proposed settlement have not been released.
