A study conducted by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) on the impact of Yoga on participants has revealed significant improvement across several health parameters. Titled “Effect of Protocoled Yoga on Health and Quality of Life”, the study was undertaken ahead of International Day of Yoga 2026 under the direction of TTD Executive Officer Muddada Ravichandra.
The survey assessed health indicators such as cardiovascular condition, respiratory rate, blood pressure and oxygen saturation before and after a fortnight of Yoga practice. The sample comprised 2,000 participants, including employees, workers, students and senior citizens, who practised the Common Yoga Protocol prescribed by the Ministry of AYUSH. The protocol included loosening exercises, Yogasanas, Pranayama and meditation, with emphasis on synchronised breathing, relaxation and holistic health promotion.
The sessions were held across 12 institutional and community locations over 15 days, after which participants were given a questionnaire to assess changes in their health and quality of life.
Quality of life shows marked improvement
Alongside the general health gains, quality-of-life indicators also registered a sharp improvement. According to R.V. Kumar, Director and Vice-Chancellor of TTD’s SVIMS super-specialty hospital, 86% of participants reported better sleep, 84% experienced improved digestion after meals, and 87% recorded enhanced concentration following the fortnight of Yoga practice.
“Eighty-nine per cent of the participants reported a positive change in mood and mental wellbeing, while an equal percentage observed greater body flexibility,” Dr. Kumar said.
Improved relationships and interactions with family and friends were reported by 82% of participants, while overall quality of life improved in 88% of the cases.
“Another interesting finding is that 90% of participants expressed willingness to continue practising Yoga, with 53% stating that they would definitely continue. This is a welcome outcome of our fortnight-long sessions,” Mr. Ravichandra observed.
