'Tumbbad 2' makers to avoid artificial showers; Tracks Maharashtra's monsoon for shoot - Reports

Tumbbad is surely one of the most underrated horror films ever made in India and it stood out for its haunting atmosphere, rain-soaked landscapes and eerie setting. The makers of 'Tumbbad 2' are reportedly adopting a unique filming strategy to preserve the visual identity that made the original film a cult favourite.

According to recent reports, the production team is planning to shoot during the monsoon season across different parts of Maharashtra instead of relying on controlled studio conditions.

Production plans adjusted around rainfall

According to a report by Moneycontrol, the sequel's filming schedule has been restructured because of the unpredictable nature of this year's monsoon. Instead of sticking to fixed locations, the production is said to be tracking weather patterns closely and moving its schedule based on where the heaviest rainfall is occurring.

The report also states that the crew is monitoring forecasts in real time. This approach is expected to help the filmmakers capture the kind of natural atmosphere that audiences associate with the Tumbbad universe.

Reports further indicate that several interior regions of Maharashtra have been shortlisted after receiving consistent rainfall, making them suitable for recreating the film's distinctive environment.

Natural rain preferred over artificial effects

Another notable aspect of the reported production plan is the decision to minimise the use of artificial rain. The makers are said to be prioritising real rainfall to maintain authenticity throughout the film. The move is also reportedly influenced by concerns surrounding water conservation, especially at a time when several regions of Maharashtra continue to face water shortages. By depending on natural weather conditions, the production hopes to preserve both realism and responsible resource usage.

According to the portal, “The irony is that while Tumbbad became famous for being shot across four monsoons, for Tumbbad 2 the team is actually chasing the monsoon.

Rain has always been an important character in the world of Tumbbad and the makers are determined to capture it authentically. The production has been constantly tracking weather patterns and adjusting schedules around rainfall forecasts. Some locations were shortlisted specifically because they were receiving heavier rainfall than others.

The team was also keen to avoid depending on artificial rain setups, choosing instead to work with natural rainfall wherever possible.”

Expectations build for the next chapter

Although the makers have not revealed story details, reports suggest that authenticity remains a central focus throughout production. 'Tumbbad 2' is being directed by Adesh Prasad, who is taking forward the acclaimed horror-fantasy universe. The film is currently slated for a theatrical release on December 3, 2027. Sohum Shah reprises his lead role in 'Tumbbad 2', with Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Nimisha Sajayan, and

joining the sequel as new additions to the ensemble cast.
