VJ-turned-actress Deepika Lakshmanapandi , who plays the “bold and arrogant” Vanmathi in the television serial Annamalai Kudumbam , says television has offered her stability.

“Acting in TV has been good. It has given me financial security and a sense of safety,” she says.Speaking about her character in the TV series, Deepika shares, “If Vanmathi wants something, she will make sure she gets it. She’s a spoilt child.” The actress says that layered roles are what excite her most. “I want characters that give me scope to perform. If a role is positive but is just sitting and crying throughout, then what’s the point? Characters where I can go out there and perform excite me.”

Ask her about her dream roles, and she reveals, “I don’t have a dream role as such. I simply want to do justice to my roles the way the makers imagined them and justify their vision. But my goal is to be an anchor of a famous TV reality show one day.”Reflecting on the unpredictable nature of the industry, she says, “When I started, there were about 100 people in my circle who entered the field with me. Today, most of them are no longer here. Maybe 10 years from now, I don’t know how many of us will still be acting. Things in life keep changing. But if we keep working consistently, even if it takes time, I am hopeful that something will work out.”Speaking about her upcoming projects, Deepika says she isn’t in any rush to sign her next. “I waited for two years and committed to Annamalai Kudumbam . So, I don’t want to rush into my next project immediately,” she signs off.
