The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam-led (TVK) government in Tamil Nadu has begun groundwork for its first industrial policy, which is slated to be rolled out in January 2027.
As part of the process, the government has started consultations with sector experts, with the first meeting bringing together representatives from the electronics and semiconductor ecosystem to gather industry perspectives on the growth opportunities, key challenges, and policy interventions required to strengthen the sector.
The meeting was chaired by S. Vijayakumar, Additional Chief Secretary, Industries, Investment Promotion and Commerce Department. Deepak Jacob, Managing Director and CEO of Guidance, the nodal agency instrumental in bringing investments into Tamil Nadu, was also present. Guidance Tamil Nadu, in collaboration with Electronic Industries Association of India and India Cellular & Electronics Association, conducted the Tamil Nadu Industrial Policy stakeholders connect.
Participants shared feedback through a structured survey, highlighting priority areas for policy intervention, measures to support emerging and future-ready sectors, and recommendations to boost local demand and build a stronger industrial ecosystem.
“Tamil Nadu leads in electronics export with 41% and has launched its own Tamil Nadu Semiconductor Mission 2030. As a critical sector, the first level of industry stakeholder discussion was done this week. Further stakeholder discussion with other sectors will happen during the coming weeks,” Mr. Jacob said.
Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, on June 18, 2026, had told the Assembly, “With an aim of promoting the State’s economic stability and industrial growth, while maintaining continuity with the previous industrial policies, this government will notify a new industrial policy that considers the present and future requirements and offers special incentive schemes for domestic and global companies to make fresh investments in Tamil Nadu.”
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Joseph C. Vijay met officials of the Industries Department on Thursday (July 9, 2026) for a review meeting. “We had discussions about the industrial policy and the vision document among other issues,” a senior official said.
