Two persons, including a property owner and a contractor, have been arrested after a wall collapsed on two men in Jiyaguda, killing a 36-year-old carpenter and injuring another. The accused were identified as Yada Vinod Kumar, the owner of the property where construction work was under way, and Dundigala Srinivas Sagar, the contractor overseeing the project. Both were arrested on Wednesday and are being produced before a court. The deceased, Angad, a carpenter residing in Bharath Nagar, Jiyaguda, succumbed to injuries sustained in the incident. Another man, Dilip Paswan, suffered minor injuries.
According to police, the incident was reported at 8 p.m. on June 22 in New Ganga Nagar, Jiyaguda. Angad and Dilip were returning home when an old wall adjacent to a construction site suddenly collapsed on them. A complaint was lodged by Rohit Paswan, the deceased’s brother, following which Kulsumpura police registered a case and launched an investigation.
During the probe, investigators found that excavation work had been undertaken at the construction site without obtaining permission from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and without providing safety measures, including barricades, fencing, warning boards and public safety arrangements.
Investigators also found that despite noticing cracks in the adjoining wall during excavation, the accused failed to take precautionary measures, resulting in the death.
Based on the evidence collected during the investigation, police arrested both the property owner and the contractor. Further investigation is underway.
