The Kalaburagi district police arrested two persons involved in a house burglary in Bhutpur village of Sedam taluk in Kalaburagi. The officers recovered gold and silver ornaments worth ₹17.5 lakh along with a motorcycle used in the crime.
Addressing a press conference here on February 10, Superintendent of Police Adduru Srinivasulu said the arrested persons have been identified as Srinivas Bairgond and Naveen Kuruk, both residents of Shilarakot village in Sedam.
As per the complaint lodged at the Mudhol police station, the accused broke open the almirah at the house of one Kashinath Yenaki in Bhutpur village on January 29 and decamped with 113 grams of gold, 444 grams of silver, and ₹10,000 in cash.
Following the complaint, a special team was formed under the guidance of Chincholi Sub-Division Deputy Superintendent of Police Sangamnath Hiremath. The team, led by Mudhol Police Inspector Daulat N.K., successfully traced and arrested the accused near the Shilarakot bus stand and recovered the stolen property, Mr. Srinivasulu said.
Two women arrested for theft at jewellery shop in Sulepeth
In another case, the district police arrested two women in connection with the theft of silver ornaments from a jewellery shop in Sulepeth village of Chincholi taluk and recovered silver jewellery and cash worth ₹1.6 lakh.
The accused have been identified as Salma Begum, 26, and Shannu Begum, 25, both residents of Bandenawaz Colony in Chidri village of Bidar district.
Mr. Srinivasulu said that both women, covering their faces, entered the jewellery shop as customers and pretended to enquire about silver anklets. Taking advantage of the situation, they allegedly distracted the shop owner’s nephew, Chakrapani, and stole six silver chains weighing about 400 grams and valued at ₹1.45 lakh.
Following a complaint lodged by shop owner Ramachari Maroj at the Sulepeth police station, a case was registered and the police team arrested the two women and recovered silver ornaments and cash worth ₹1.6 lakh.
During interrogation, the accused also reportedly confessed to their involvement in a similar theft at a jewellery shop in Sedam taluk, the officer said.
