An accident at Mangaluru Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) claimed the lives of two field operators
MANGALURU: Two field operators from the Oil Movement Area (OMS) of MRPL died, and one person sustained injuries in an accident at MRPL on Saturday. According to a statement issued by MRPL, the incident occurred at around 8.00 am and involved two experienced field operators.The deceased have been identified as Deep Chandra Bhartiya and Bijil Prasad.The incident reportedly took place while they were on top of a tank platform, checking a suspected level malfunction of Tank FB7029 A (dry slop service – floating roof) in the OMS area. Both employees were found unconscious on the tank rooftop platform. They were given first aid and then shifted to a nearby hospital, where they were declared dead.Meanwhile, a third MRPL field operator, Vinayak Myageri, who went up to rescue them, was also admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru. He is said to be stable and under observation.Probe orderedMRPL has formed a high-level committee of Group General Managers to carry out a detailed investigation. Information has also been shared with all relevant statutory authorities, the release stated.
