Two drunk cops misbehave with public near Palani, suspended

Dindigul: A special sub-inspector and a constable were suspended on Friday after they allegedly got drunk and engaged in an argument with the public while on security duty during a festival near Palani.The incident took place at Gorikadavu where the annual temple festival is under way at the Karuppanasamy temple festival, drawing thousands of devotees daily from nearby areas. SSI Sakthivel and constable Parthiban from the Keeranur police station were posted on bandobast duty.According to a source, both police personnel were intoxicated and got into a heated argument with the public. Some bystanders reportedly recorded the altercation on their mobile phones and shared the clip on social media platforms.After the video came to the notice of district superintendent of police S Jeyakumar, the SP placed the SSI and the constable under suspension. He has also ordered a departmental inquiry against them, the source said.
