The accused have been identified as 30-year-old Abhay Kumar Dhubey, a resident of Pipeline Road, Miyapur, originally from Sant Ravidas Nagar in Uttar Pradesh, and 18-year-old Akash Kumar Rajak, also a resident of Pipeline Road, originally from Giridih district in Jharkhand.

According to the police, a 36-year-old housewife from Ramayampet village in Medak district lodged a complaint on February 26 at about 3 p.m. stating that she had come to Miyapur on February 25 morning to meet her daughter, who studies at Vashista Junior College. While returning in the afternoon between 2.35 p.m. and 2.45 p.m., as she was walking towards a bus stop within Miyapur, two unidentified persons approached her from behind on a motorcycle and snatched her mangalsutra weighing about 70 grams before fleeing.

Police said around 10 grams of the gold chain was forcibly taken away, while the remaining 60 grams got entangled in her saree and remained with her. The complainant stated that she would be able to identify the offenders if produced before her.

Acting on available clues and technical evidence, including tracing the motorcycle number plate used in the offence, the police identified and apprehended the accused at their residence.

Investigators said the accused were working as food delivery workers and allegedly targeted women who appeared to be alone while delivering orders. A gold item weighing about 10 grams was seized in connection with the case. Further investigation is underway.

Police have advised the public to avoid wearing heavy gold chains in public places, especially while travelling alone, and to remain alert on roadsides.
