The Chittoor police on Thursday arrested two persons involved in a series of house break-ins and recovered stolen property worth approximately ₹34 lakh, including gold and silver ornaments, as well as two cars.

The accused, identified as Lallu Prasad (34) and Janardhan (31), both natives of Salem district in Tamil Nadu, were arrested by Chittoor II Town Inspector B. Nettikantaiah and his team at an abandoned petrol bunk near Reddigunta junction on the Chittoor-Vellore road, acting on a tip-off.

The arrests were linked to a burglary that occurred on February 5 at Durga Nagar Colony in Chittoor town. The house owner had reportedly locked the residence and left for his native village after the death of his son. Police said the accused allegedly scanned the area, identified the locked house, and broke open the door at midnight before decamping with valuables.

Following a complaint from the victim, a case was registered at Chittoor II Town police station and special teams were formed to track down the culprits. A special team pursued leads across Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu and coordinated with police in neighbouring States before tracing the suspects.

During interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed to committing multiple house burglaries in the three States. Police said that Lallu Prasad has a long criminal history with 31 cases, including two murders, two attempted murder cases, 11 robberies, and 16 house burglaries, and is listed as a rowdy-sheeter. Janardhan faces seven cases related to motorcycle thefts and ganja smuggling in Tamil Nadu.
