Two persons traveling in a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) bus were arrested by the Prohibition Enforcement Wing (PEW) of Vellore police on Sunday at police check post in Christianpet village near Katpadi in Vellore on Tamil Nadu - Andhra Pradesh for possession of 10 kgs of ganja.
The arrested persons were identified as N. Vijay Anand (50), a native of Ulundurpettai in Kallakurichi district, and his friend G. Satishkumar, 30 of Gingee. Initial inquiry revealed that during a routine vehicle check, a police team was checking south-bound buses from Tirupathi at the checkpost. They stopped Tirupati - Kanyakumari bus and checked passengers and their bags. The duo was holding a bag each. Police checked their bags and found five kgs of ganja in each bag.
Immediately, they were taken to Katpadi police station where the duo told police that they used to buy ganja from dealers in Tirupati. They board crowded government buses and travel by standing to evade initial checks by bus crew and police surveillance on the route. They sell small quantities of the contraband to buyers, especially tourists and industrial workers in Tiruvannamalai. Police registered a case against them. They were lodged at Central Prison in Vellore. A probe is underway.
