Raipur: Two key Bharatmala highway projects passing through Chhattisgarh — the Raipur-Visakhapatnam Expressway and the Durg-Arang bypass — are expected to be completed by March 2027, officials said after a high-level review chaired by PWD secretary Mukesh Kumar Bansal.Reviewing the progress of national highway projects with senior officials and contractors, the agencies were directed to ensure that temporary diversion roads are created at all construction stretches so that commuters do not face inconvenience during the monsoon.Bansal asked officials to prepare proposals for two-lane and four-lane state roads connecting with the Bharatmala corridors to maximise the economic benefits of the upcoming highway network.
He said the projects would improve freight movement, passenger transport and economic growth in the state. The PWD secretary also reviewed the status of proposed flyovers at Telibandha Chowk, Udyog Bhawan Chowk and Sarona Chowk in Raipur and sought updates on pending land acquisition and forest clearance issues affecting National Highway works. He directed officials to expedite work on the Keshkal Ghat bypass, including the simultaneous construction of two major bridges on the stretch, and stressed the need to eliminate accident-prone black spots while ensuring strict adherence to road safety standards.Officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) informed the meeting that work on the Raipur-Dhanbad Economic Corridor is also progressing at a fast pace.
