A 25-year-old woman and her friend, who was driving a high-end luxury car, were killed when the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a bridge wall on the Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway near Hoskote in the early hours of Saturday.

The deceased have been identified as Shazia, 25, an employee of a private company in Bengaluru, and Rizwan, a Bengaluru-based car dealer. The duo was on a late night drive when the accident occurred.

According to the police, the duo drove from Bengaluru towards the HKR Road stretch to have dinner. The accident occurred while they were returning and crossing the Dodda Hulluru bridge near Hoskote.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Rizwan was driving the car at a very high speed when he allegedly lost control of the vehicle. The car rammed the concrete side wall of the bridge with tremendous force, completely crushing the front portion of the car.

Hearing the loud impact, local residents rushed to the spot and alerted the police. Shazia, who was trapped inside the severely mangled vehicle, had sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene.

Initially, the police suspected that the driver had fled the accident site. However, a subsequent search revealed that the impact of the crash had thrown Rizwan out of the vehicle. He fell from the bridge into a waterbody below and was killed on the spot.

The bodies were later recovered and shifted to a nearby hospital for post-mortem.

The Hoskote Traffic Police have registered a case. Further inquiries are under way.
