The police have identified the accused in the double murder case as persons from Jangalapalli in Yerpedu mandal of Tirupati district. They took three persons into custody in the case on Wednesday (July 8, 2026) night.

According to sources, the main accused, Sunil, had abandoned his wife a few months ago without citing a reason. A dowry harassment case is also pending against him in the court.

Sampurnamma, his mother-in-law, who works in Tirumala, came to know that Sunil was attending a wedding on Wednesday night at Padmavathi Kalyana Mandapam on Tiruchanur Road. She informed Munirathnam and Manikantha, who had personally overseen her daughter’s wedding, about it.

At the venue, the two, Munirathnam and Manikantha, spoke with Sunil, and questioned him sternly about abandoning Sampurnamma’s daughter. Sunil’s younger brother and relatives then arrived at the scene.

Along with them, Sunil allegedly attacked Munirathnam and Manikantha with knives. Munirathnam died at the scene, and the other victim died while being shifted to Ruia Hospital. On a complaint from Sampurnamma, the police have registered a case under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Further investigation into the double murder case is under way.
