Two more arrested in Begusarai gangrape case

Begusarai: Police on Thursday arrested two more persons in connection with the gangrape case, taking the total number of accused held so far to five.Begusarai SP Manish said a special investigation team (SIT) arrested Ramu Mahto alias Ram Babu Sahni (30), a resident of Simaria Ghat under Chakia police station, and Soli Bind of the Shamho police station area.“Ramu Mahto is a named accused in the FIR, while Soli Bind has been identified as one of the previously unidentified accused. We have sufficient evidence against both,” the SP said.The FIR, lodged on June 13, named Nitish Kumar, Ramu Mahto and Suraj Kumar as accused, along with two unidentified persons. During the investigation, police identified the two unnamed accused as Amarjeet Paswan and Soli Bind; both are now in custody.Police said Suraj Kumar is the only accused still absconding. “We will arrest him very soon,” the SP added.The case had triggered widespread outrage after doctors recovered a cartridge, a pebble and a piece of wood from the survivor’s private parts when she complained of persistent pain even a week after the incident.
