Ahmedabad: Two Mumbai-bound flights were diverted to the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport in Ahmedabad on Monday, as heavy rains battered Mumbai.A Singapore-Mumbai flight landed in Ahmedabad around 2.10pm before departing at 3.25pm.

On the other hand, an Akasa Air Delhi-Mumbai flight also diverted to Ahmedabad before resuming its journey later in the evening.Airport officials said the addition of hangar facilities in recent years has enabled SVPI Airport to accommodate diverted aircraft without disrupting scheduled operations.Over the weekend, as heavy rain lashed the city, airport witnessed disruption in vehicular movement after the automated boom barriers at the entry and exit gates malfunctioned.Airport sources confirmed that the barriers stopped working during the downpour on Saturday and Sunday. Several passengers complained of being charged parking fees despite delays caused by the congestion. In a post on X, Dr Ankit Shah said he was charged Rs 150, despite spending only a few minutes at the airport.Responding to the post, AIAL’s official handle stated, “The vehicle had entered the Terminal 1 arrival parking area, where parking charges are applicable.” It added that the eight-minute free-flow facility applies only to the Terminal 1 kerbside pick-up lane and not to the parking area and said it was reviewing the complaint.
