Two students injured as ceiling plaster collapses at Barwani Sandipani school, in-charge suspended

Barwani : Two Class 9 girl students were injured after a portion of the ceiling plaster collapsed inside a classroom at the Sandipani school in Sendhwa town of Barwani district on Tuesday.

After the incident, the district collector suspended the in-charge Jan Shikshak for alleged negligence.Sendhwa block education officer Lokendra Sohni said the incident occurred at the Sandipani school building, formerly known as the CM Rise School, while classes were in progress. Teachers immediately rushed the injured students to the civil hospital in Sendhwa, where they were treated. Both studentsare out of danger, he said.According to the official, one of the students suffered two head injuries, though doctors confirmed there was no fracture. The other student also sustained injuries in the incident.Sohni said a new Sandipani school building has already been completed adjacent to the existing campus. However, it has not yet been handed over by the Project Implementation Unit (PIU) due to pending procedural formalities. Furniture for the new building has also started arriving.

The school caters to nearly 1,500 students from KG-1 to Class 12. Owing to space constraints in the old building, classes have been running in two shifts, said BEO.Following the incident, the assistant commissioner of the Tribal Development Department, Ranjana Singh, reached the school to assess the situation and briefed Barwani collector Jayati Singh. After receiving the preliminary report, the collector suspended the in-charge Jan Shikshak, Raju Shinde, with immediate effect for alleged negligence in monitoring Sandipani school, Sendhwa.

During suspension, his headquarter will be at the Pati Block Education Office.The collector has directed that classes be shifted to the new school building from Wednesday.Officials said preparations have begun to start academic activities in the new building immediately to ensure the safety of students and prevent any recurrence of such incidents.
