Two teenagers arrested for stealing 33 piglets near Coimbatore

COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore city police on Wednesday arrested two teenagers, including a minor, on Tuesday for stealing 33 piglets from a piggery near Kovaipudur.The arrested teenagers have been identified as M Hariram, 19, of Manimuthu Nagar at Kozhinjampara in Palakkad district of Kerala and his 17-year-old friend who is a native of Sulur in Coimbatore district.The Kuniyamuthur investigation wing police said Hariram’s uncle ran a pig farm at Kozhinjampara. He learnt to raise pigs in the farm. He planned to start his own pig farm and was searching for piglets. He came to know through the minor boy that B Ramachandran, 25, of Sundakkamuthur in Coimbatore was running a piggery at Arumuga Gounder Thottam near CBM College at Kovaipudur where piglets were available for sale.Around 6pm on Aug 3, Ramachandran locked his pig farm and went home.

The following day, he returned to the farm and found 33 out of 180 piglets missing. Based on his complaint, the police registered a case and arrested Hariram and his minor friend, who arranged a mini goods carrier to transport the stolen piglets. The police recovered the stolen 33 piglets from them. Hariram was remanded in judicial custody while the minor boy was produced before the juvenile justice board and lodged in an observation home.
