Two U.S. citizens detained at Srinagar airport over satellite-based GPS device

The Jammu and Kashmir police on Sunday (April 19, 2026) detained two nationals from the United States at the Srinagar airport following the recovery of a Global Positioning Service (GPS) device and a communicator.

A senior police officer told The Hindu that the matter was being investigated. Officials said the police, during searches, spotted the Garmin GPS device, which can be operated from a satellite, in a travel handbag. Thereafter, two U.S. citizens were deboarded, and the device was seized. The duo was identified as Jeffrey Scott Prather from the U.S. state of Montana and Haldar Koushik, an Indian-origin person settled in the U.S.
