In a suspected case of mass suicide, two women from the same family were found dead, while two male members are in critical condition in a village in Maharashtra on Friday morning. Two young children from the family have been found safe.
The deceased have been identified as 45-year-old Rameja Alauddin Patil and 30-year-old Kajal Sameer Patil. The male members of the family, identified as Alauddin Makbool Patil and Sameer Alauddin Patil, have been admitted to a hospital for treatment.
According to police, preliminary evidence suggests that all four may have consumed poison. The family resided on Dhalgaon Road in Nangole village in Sangli district in Maharashtra. On Friday morning, an elderly woman in the household found the four unconscious adults and alerted the neighbours. Upon arrival, the neighbours found all four unresponsive and rushed them to the hospital.
Sub-Divisional Police Officer Sunil Salunkhe and Police Inspector Jyotiram Patil visited the house and conducted an inspection.
During the investigation, the police recovered four glasses, a knife, sliced lemons and a toxic chemical commonly used for animals. Based on this evidence, the officials believe the incident was a deliberate act.
