In the shock of the season, Bodo/Glimt showed former UEFA Champions League champions and last season’s losing finalists Inter the exit door with a 2-1 win at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on Wednesday to clinch a 5-2 win on aggregate.
Strikes from Jens Petters Hauge and Hakon Evjen outdid Alessandro Bastoni’s consolation for Inter as Cristian Chivu’s men were eliminated from the European event.
Bodo/Glimt had posted a 3-1 win in the first leg of the encounter at home, before putting the result beyond any doubt with their showing on Italian soil.
“I think it’s an amazing evening for the club, for the players, for the town and also for Norwegian football," Bodo/Glimt boss Kjetil Knutsen said following the triumph.
“We are not talking about goals, we are talking about how to perform and how we can take steps and develop the players and the team. Now I think that’s extremely important," the gaffer who has been in charge of the club since 2018 continued.
“We have our way to do it and that’s really important," he added.
Chivu lauded the effors of Knutsen and the side from Norway in their valiant run in the elite European competition.
“We know that the Champions League is very competitive, if a team reaches this stage of the competition that means that they are offering something," said Chivu.
“They showed that in Dortmund, Madrid, against City and twice against us," the Inter boss added.
German heavyweights Bayer Leverkusen sealed progress to the subsequent round of the event with a 2-0 aggregate win following a 0-0 draw at home.
