Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut on Thursday (September 11, 2025) slammed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government for allowing the India-Pakistan match in the ongoing Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates, announcing “Majha kumkum Majha Desh” (My Sindoor, My Country) protest on September 14, on the day of the match.
“Shiv Sena (UBT)‘s women wing will send sindoor to Mr. Modi, who tried to politicise Operation Sindoor. BJP should introspect and consider the sentiments of the country; this is betrayal. BJP teaches us nationalism, whereas their children, including Home Minister Amit Shah’s son and BCCI director Jay Shah, will be watching the match,” said Mr. Raut
Calling the move outright treason, Mr. Raut asked, “Mr. Modi once said that blood and water cannot flow together and temporarily suspended the Indus water treaty. How can blood and cricket stay together? BJP ministers constantly spoke of breaking all ties with Pakistan. Now, what is their stand?”
Slamming the BJP, Mr. Raut said, “On one side, the country is bleeding, and on the other side, you are playing a match, aren’t you ashamed. The Operation Sindoor is still on, as they say, the accused are still on. How can they allow the match?”
He also alleged that huge gambling is involved in the Indo-Pak match, mostly operated from Gujarat and Rajasthan, and has involvement of people associated with the BJP.
BJP ridicules Raut
The ruling alliance party BJP attacked Sanjay Raut for the protest, saying, “Instead of the ‘My Kumkum, My Country’ campaign, he should run the ‘My Javed, My Biryani’ campaign. BJP media chief Navnath Ban said the match is as per the international rules.
He called Mr. Raut “hypocrite” and alleged that the country was not remembered when Pakistani flags were waved and people “convicted in terrorism cases” were brought for campaigning during Lok Sabha elections in their rallies. Now, suddenly he remembers patriotism, said Mr. Ban.
“The India-Pakistan match is neither on Indian soil nor on Pakistani soil and will be held according to international rules. Besides, a boycott will give straight victory to Pakistan,” he added.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis dismissed the issue, saying, “Why waste my time listening to people who are not taken seriously?”
