UDF will decide on low-alcohol liquor marketing, says Kerala excise minister M Liju

Kottayam: Excise minister M Liju said it would be UDF that takes the final call on marketing low-alcohol liquor in the state.Addressing reporters in Thiruvalla on Thursday, the minister said his personal opinion on the matter was not relevant and that whatever UDF decided would be accepted.

While the excise department should be kept informed of any liquor sale, he said, the excise minister need not necessarily be aware of the budget proposal on the matter.Liju pointed out that it was the LDF govt that first introduced low-alcohol liquor brands in the state, which is currently sold through military canteens. Responding to former KPCC chief V M Sudheeran’s remarks on the issue, the minister said it was a matter of personal opinion.
