 Temple committee head booked for harassing woman over invitation visit; case registered

UDUPI: A case was registered at Amasabail Police Station after a woman alleged that a man misbehaved with her when she visited his residence to hand over an invitation letter for the Dharmasthala Dharma Samrakshana Yatra meeting to be held on Sept 5.In a complaint, a 29-year-old woman alleged that on Sept 2, she called the accused, who is heading the managing committee of a temple, over the phone to hand over the programme invite. The accused allegedly told her that he was at home and asked her to come before 1 pm.However, at around 12 noon, when the complainant went to the accused’s house, he was seen seated on a chair in the veranda. When the complainant handed over the invitation letter, the accused allegedly touched the complainant’s hand while receiving it, causing the complainant embarrassment. As the complainant was about to leave, the accused insisted she wait for two minutes and allegedly misbehaved with her. Shocked, the complainant immediately got up, said she had some other work, and left. While the complainant was leaving, the accused allegedly followed her up to the house entrance, asking her to return home after completing her work by 1:00 pm.A case was registered under Section 75 of the BNS.
