Ulhas river crosses danger level, 250 evacuated in Badlapur

Floodwaters had not entered residential areas

Kalyan: Ulhas river breached the danger marks at three locations in Thane district, while Kalu river crossed its warning level of 102m in Kalyan on Monday following incessant rain. With Ulhas river swollen, authorities evacuated 45 elderly persons from an old-age home and over 200 people from chawls and cattle sheds in Badlapur.

Badlapur municipal council CEO Maruti Gaikwad told TOI that floodwaters had not entered residential areas and the evacuation was carried out as a precautionary measure. Thane collector Shrikrishna Panchal inspected low-lying stretches of the river, along with civic officials. Fire brigade and police teams were deployed along riverbanks, and rope barricades installed near Badlapur bridge to prevent people from venturing close to the river.
