CM Yogi Adityanath visits BHU in Varanasi on Saturday
Lucknow/Varanasi: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday condemned the alleged objectionable comments made on social media against the daughter of Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, asserting that any insulting remark against women is unacceptable.‘Beti to beti hoti hai’, remarked Yogi while addressing a public gathering in Azamgarh, and said that he had taken immediate cognisance of the matter and directed the police to lodge an FIR without delay.“I noticed that some people had made inappropriate comments against Akhilesh Yadav’s daughter on social media. As soon as the matter came to my notice, I instructed the police to file an FIR,” Yogi said.“A daughter is a daughter. No derogatory remark against her will be tolerated,” Yogi said.On the directives of the CM, an FIR was lodged in Kanpur on Thursday night.Emphasising the importance of respecting women, the CM said Indian cultural values teach that every daughter deserves dignity and protection.“We have grown up with the belief that the daughter of a village is everyone’s daughter, and the sister of a village is everyone’s sister. There should be no discrimination when it comes to the honour of women,” he said.
He also took a swipe at the Samajwadi Party, urging Akhilesh Yadav to advise his own party workers and supporters to exercise restraint in their language.“Before preaching to others, he should also counsel their followers to maintain decency in public discourse. People should think before making comments about others and reflect on the kind of language their own supporters use against sisters, daughters, elderly people, departed individuals and senior leaders,” Yogi said.He said that political workers should be “cultured and disciplined” in their conduct and communication. “It would be better if they explain this to their people. If they fail to understand, then inform us and we will make them understand properly,” he said. The controversy erupted after an allegedly offensive social media post targeting Akhilesh Yadav’s elder daughter surfaced online recently, triggering widespread criticism and demand for action.Reiterating his govt’s position, Yogi said strict action would be taken against anyone found making objectionable remarks against women, irrespective of political affiliations. He said the dignity and safety of daughters should remain above politics and that the law would take its course in such cases. The issue gained political attention, with FIRs being registered at Kanpur cybercrime station and Guna district of Madhya Pradesh against people and social media accounts accused of posting derogatory content.
