Unclaimed parcel with suspected drugs found at Chennai airport

Chennai: An unclaimed baggage, containing suspected narcotic drug parcels, found abandoned at the air cargo complex in Chennai airport was recovered by Customs officials. A probe has been launched for the unknown persons who dropped the nag there.Sources said the incident happened a week ago at the air cargo complex where the private couriers have their offices to receive parcels to be couriered abroad.Customs officials found white powdery substance in the box and they suspect that it could be a psychotropic substance. It has been sent to a forensic lab for analysis. They suspect that unknown persons who came to send the consignment to Malaysia might have abandoned it out of fear.

Customs sleuths are combing the CCTV footage to identify the persons since the address mentioned in the parcel turned out to be fake.Last week, It maybe noted that the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) thwarted an attempt to smuggle 5 kg crystal methamphetamine to Malaysia and arrested one person, Sivayogeswaran Rajkumar. He has since been remanded in judicial custody.
