Premier League giants Liverpool secured a commanding 3-0 victory over Marseille at the Orange Velodrome on Thursday in their UEFA Champions League clash.
Dominic Szoboszlai, Cody Gakpo, and an own goal by Geronimo Rulli sealed the comprehensive win against the French side.
Szoboszlai opened the scoring in first-half stoppage time with a brilliant free-kick that found the back of the net, giving Liverpool the lead at the break.
Rulli’s own goal in the 72nd minute doubled Liverpool’s advantage, and Cody Gakpo’s goal in the third minute of second-half added time ensured the victory.
“I did my homework and was told that if no one lies down, I can hit it under the wall. I tried it and it worked out," Szoboszlai said.
Elsewhere, Spanish champions Barcelona came from behind to secure a 4-2 win at Slavia Prague, marking their fourth win in this UCL campaign. Fermin Lopez scored twice, while Dani Olmo and Robert Lewandowski added a goal each, even after the Polish striker scored an own goal following Vasil Kusej’s opener.
Atletico Madrid’s ambitions of reaching the Champions League top eight were dented by a 1-1 draw against Galatasaray. Giuliano Simeone’s early goal gave his father Diego Simeone’s team the perfect start, but Marcos Llorente’s own goal resulted in a draw in Istanbul.
German champions Bayern Munich confirmed their place in the Round of 16 with a win over Union Saint-Gilloise at the Allianz Arena on Thursday, as Harry Kane scored twice.
Kane opened the scoring in the 52nd minute and then doubled his tally by converting a penalty three minutes later.
