Undertrial prisoner dies during treatment in Sahibganj

Dumka: An undertrial prisoner lodged in Sahibganj jail died during treatment at Sadar Hospital on Monday. He had been sent to jail three days ago in connection with an eight-year-old theft case.The deceased was identified as Mohammad Naeem (43), a resident of Sonajori under Barhet police station limits. He was admitted to the prisoners’ ward of the hospital on March 15 after his health suddenly deteriorated. He died during treatment on Monday.Hospital deputy superintendent Devesh Kumar said the prisoner was brought to the hospital in a critical condition. “He was referred to a higher centre as he was suffering from brain fever, but he could not be shifted and passed away today,” Kumar said. Barhet circle officer Basukinath Tudu said that, as per protocol in cases of custodial death, further proceedings will be conducted under the supervision of a magistrate.He was admitted to the prisoners’ ward of the hospital on March 15 after his health suddenly deteriorated
