Union govt misleading farmers: Mukul Wasnik

Ahmedabad: Union govt is misleading farmers and the Swaminathan Commission’s recommendations exist only on paper, AICC general secretary in charge of Gujarat, Mukul Wasnik, said in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.Speaking to reporters at the GPCC headquarters, Wasnik said Gujarat farmers face a severe crisis driven by poor crop prices, rising input costs, and expensive fertilisers, seeds, and pesticides. He also highlighted inadequate crop loss compensation, insurance flaws, and chronic power and irrigation shortages.“The Congress party demands that the central govt legally guarantee the implementation of the Swaminathan Commission’s recommendations, ensure fair prices for farmers’ produce,” he said.GPCC president Amit Chavda alleged that corruption carried out in the name of pre-monsoon work has been exposed in Surat, which experienced heavy flooding. He demanded a high-level inquiry into the pre-monsoon work of the Surat city authorities.
