Lucknow: To modernise the state’s livestock sector, a discussion was held between additional chief secretary, animal husbandry, Mukesh Meshram and representatives of Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of India and DUVASU Mathura.Meshram said that the meeting laid the groundwork for a proposed tripartite memorandum of understanding between the FAO India, the department of animal husbandry and DUVASU Mathura. “Our discussions focussed on identifying strategic domains where convergence of policy, research and field implementation can drive sustainable and scalable outcomes. Key thematic areas finalised for collaboration include the development of a robust fodder value chain, utilisation of cow dung and agricultural residues for production of compressed biogas and bio-CNG and the establishment of a ‘One Health’-oriented disease surveillance network,” Meshram said.The three partners agreed to initially focus on leveraging the existing network of cow shelters across the state, particularly in Mathura and Gorakhpur. With this, UP will serve as a demonstration state for piloting such innovative approaches, showcasing scalable technologies for circular livestock systems, the official added.FAO India will be the knowledge partner and provide global expertise and technical guidance DUVASU Mathura will be the nodal coordinating centre for piloting and operationalising these initiatives on the ground.
