Uttar Pradesh has completed preparations for the 12th International Yoga Day, with around 1.42 crore students from 1.32 lakh Parishadiya Vidyalayas set to take part in collective yoga sessions on June 21.
More than 78,000 girls studying in 746 Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas will also participate in the programme, which will involve students, teachers, Shiksha Mitras, instructors and parents.
Director of Education (Basic) Anil Bhushan Chaturvedi has been appointed nodal officer for monitoring and coordination of the programmes.
Collective Yoga Sessions Across Schools
According to the Basic Education Department, collective yoga practice, pranayama sessions and awareness programmes highlighting the importance of yoga will be organised in schools across the state on June 21.
Students will be informed about the physical, mental and spiritual benefits of yoga. Participation of parents and members of the local community will also be encouraged to spread awareness among a wider section of society.
Guidelines Issued Across State
The department said preparations have been completed in line with directions issued by the Ministry of AYUSH and the Ministry of Education. Guidelines have been sent to Divisional Assistant Directors of Education, District Basic Education Officers and Block Education Officers across Uttar Pradesh.
The department said the objective is to ensure that International Yoga Day goes beyond a formal event and promotes healthy habits and a positive lifestyle among students.
Focus On Integrating Yoga With School Life
According to the Basic Education Department, efforts have been made in recent years to integrate yoga with school life and public health.
The department said special emphasis is being placed on promoting health, discipline, concentration and positive thinking among students through regular yoga activities in schools. The large-scale programme on June 21 is aimed at strengthening awareness about yoga and promoting a healthy lifestyle among the younger generation.
