A minor dispute between two brothers in Uttar Pradesh’s Maharajganj turned fatal after a 16-year-old boy allegedly stabbed his younger sibling to death with a pair of scissors, police said on Tuesday. The police are investigating the matter, with the accused on the run and efforts to nab him underway.
The incident took place in Chaumukha village in Mahrajgangj on Monday. According to initial reports, the elder brother, identified as Suraj, had recently purchased a pair of shoes online. His younger brother, Laxman (15), insisted on wearing the new shoes first, which led to an argument between the two.
What began as a verbal spat soon escalated into a physical altercation.
In a sudden fit of rage, Suraj allegedly picked up a pair of scissors lying nearby and attacked Laxman, delivering multiple blows.
Laxman sustained severe injuries to his head and hands and collapsed at the scene, leaving family members in shock.
Upon receiving information, police rushed to the spot and arranged for the injured teenager to be taken to the Ghugli Community Health Center.
Due to his critical condition, doctors referred him to the district hospital in Maharajganj. However, Laxman was declared dead on arrival.
The incident has left the family devastated and triggered panic in the village, with residents expressing disbelief over how a trivial disagreement could lead to such a tragic outcome.
Police officials said the accused fled the scene after the attack and remains absconding.
Efforts are underway to trace and apprehend him. "No written complaint has been received so far. Once it is filed, a case will be registered and further legal action will follow," said Station House Officer Kunwar Gaurav Singh of Ghugli police station.
Authorities have sent the victim’s body for post-mortem examination, and an investigation is ongoing to ascertain the exact sequence of events.
Officials are also speaking to family members and locals to gather more details.
The case highlights how quickly minor conflicts can spiral into violence, raising concerns about anger management and domestic disputes among adolescents.
