UPCA opts for two-city format for UPT20 League, Ekana To Host Opener, Green Park Gets Final

Lucknow: After weeks of meetings, intense brainstorming, and a flurry of statements from stakeholders over the venue for the upcoming UPT20 League, the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) has finally ended the speculation.

On the instructions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the league will be staged in a two-city format, with Lucknow and Kanpur sharing the hosting duties.The decision was taken during a high-level UPCA meeting held in Delhi on Wednesday, where it was decided that the opening ceremony would be held at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, while the final would be played at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur.

A total of around 34 matches are expected to be played in the tournament.

Ekana Stadium in Lucknow is likely to host around 20 to 22 matches, including the first phase of the league, while Green Park Stadium in Kanpur is expected to stage around 10 to 12 matches during the second phase.The first phase has been allotted to Lucknow keeping the weather conditions in mind. The UPT20 League is expected to begin in mid-August, a period when heavy rainfall is forecast across the state. Ekana Stadium, equipped with a modern drainage system, is considered better suited to handle rain interruptions and prevent waterlogging.

The second phase will be played in Kanpur, when the intensity of the monsoon is expected to ease.UPCA secretary Prem Manohar Gupta said the decision was taken after considering all factors, including weather conditions and logistical requirements."Finally, a decision has been made that the prestigious league will be held across two cities as per the instructions of CM Yogi Adityanath. Around 20 to 22 matches will be played at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, while 10 to 12 matches will be held at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur. We have considered all factors, including weather conditions," Gupta said.
